"Ngor" by Prince Luc | Performed by Mary Marshall | Chad, Africa 2013

Mary Marshall · Artist Ambassador

Type of Ambassador: Dancer, Choreographer

Dates of Involvement: July - August 2013

What programs or services did you provide while an Ambassador?

"I taught Dance and Worship Classes to the Students in Chad. I created an Arts Workshop in collaboration with Les Chantres Unis Du Tchad, called, "B'Transform'D" that was a workshop that combined dance training, preaching and choreography. The workshop ended with a final performance by the students. I preached and ministered through dance at churches in Chad. I filmed a short film of dancing with children in a village. I directed and produced a concert called, "The Journey," which combined music, dance, film, poetry and theatre. This concert brought together artists in Chad (musicians, singers and dancers) and pastors, to share my testimony, bring unity, reach people with the Gospel and move people's hearts to believe in Jesus. I taught dance classes and performed for children in the city of Mondou. I taught dance and worship classes to families in the villages too. One of the greatest things on my heart was to visit with the people in Chad, love them and experience what the people were going through every day. This is why I desired to stay in a Village with a family, and not in a hotel. It is so important to me, as an Ambassador, that the people I work with, feel loved, seen and appreciated. The relationship with the people, is the most important aspect to me."

How did the community respond to your program?

"When we performed "The Journey" in Chad, they said that they had never seen a concert like this before! They were inspired and amazed to see something new. A lot of people came to Christ, at the end of the concert as well, which was the goal behind this mission. During the "B'Transform'D" workshop, students were healed and delivered from oppression. They were also very inspired to not give up!"

How were you impacted by your involvement?

"It transformed my life forever! It was the most challenging mission that I have ever been involved in, but the most life-changing. It opened my eyes to see how many needs there are in our world. It revealed my heart for helping people, and understanding their lifestyle, to build compassion. This involvement opened my eyes even more, to see the calling and the purpose for me and my ministry. All of the students were so amazing, kind, loving and so incredibly hungry to learn. I believe that God used the people of Chad, to transform my heart and my life. Working with Laura is such a blessing. She is so caring and so compassionate. It was a unique and unforgettable experience that I will cherish in my heart. It built more COMPASSION in my life! AOC gets you out of your comfort zone, in a healthy, loving manner. This is what sets AOC apart from other organizations. Love and COMPASSION is first."

How would you advise others who want to serve as an Ambassador?

"Surrender. Let go. Let God. AOC is all about compassion and treating others well, with genuine love. You will be challenged, but because of Laura's heart and her love for others, you will enjoy the journey of being an Ambassador. Stay rooted in prayer. AOC is working internationally, and I believe it is so important for Ambassadors to be in unity through prayer. If you travel to Chad, it is important to take care of yourself, by preparing physically and spiritually. Talk to Laura, for advice and guidance. If you feel called to be an Ambassador, join us, and use the gift that God has given you to touch others' lives. Not only will people be blessed, but you will be blessed. As an Ambassador for AOC, we must stand for compassion and set an example for compassion. Your life will never be the same, because of positive change through AOC!"
